AKS (born September 30, 1985) is an Indian-born composer/producer, singer, and songwriter. He is an upcoming artist who regularly produces in both the Indian film scene as well as for Pop/RnB productions. He released his debut album as composer, "Aananda Poonkatru", in 2007 featuring artists from all over India. The album was widely appreciated by critics for its unique rhythmic style and world music influences.
Hailing from a family of musicians, AKS was constantly exposed to music from childhood. He initially received training in Indian classical music for over 13 years, giving him the skills necessary for developing a sonic palette transgressing cultural boundaries. He also developed his talent as a quick-footed dancer constantly pushing the boundaries of traditional rhythm in the Indian Bharathanatyam style.
At this time, AKS especially related to the work of India’s number one composer A.R. Rahman. During his later years, he was considerably influenced by both world music as well as Pop/Rap/RnB super-producers such as Timbaland, Scott Storch, and Kanye West. In 2008, he received an opportunity to study under the precept of Oscar winner A.R. Rahman at the composer’s newly founded KM Music Conservatory. There, AKS further developed his skill in Western Classical and Hindustani styles.
AKS has scored music for a number of short indie films in India, apart from producing for various upcoming Indian artists, and continues to do so. In 2009, he founded Neemtree Records, a label dedicated to promoting non-film music in India. In addition to overseeing production work for the label’s upcoming projects, he is currently working on feature-length offerings in both Hollywood and the Indian film industry.
